/ How it works
Two categories.
- Category 1: foreign income or assets never taxed in India, up to INR 1 crore in aggregate. Pay 30% tax plus an equal additional amount: 60% of the value.
- Category 2: assets already taxed, or acquired while non-resident, but not shown in Schedule FA, up to INR 5 crore. Flat fee of INR 1 lakh.
- Assets are valued at fair market value as on 31 March 2026.
- A valid declaration gives immunity from tax, penalty and prosecution under the Black Money Act for the declared items.
- For comparison, the Black Money Act charges 30% tax and a penalty of up to three times that tax if undisclosed assets are found, and prosecution is possible.
